Transgender Healthcare Help

Bree is transitioning from male to female and she got pre-approval for laser hair removal from Laser Away. Bree had it done by “Laser Away” and paid for it in full, out-of-pocket (around $3,000). Now United Healthcare will not pay the claim until Laser Away gives them a W9.

Through our research we have found that W9s are required when insurance companies pay providers for healthcare. But in this case, since Bree paid the claim directly, we do not see the need for Laser Away to provide a W9 form. Our health insurance expert said, since Bree is the one who is being reimbursed, she is the one who needs to submit the W9, then ask for reimbursement.
