William recently opened a bank account with Chase in Colorado, in order to receive funds from his mother’s estate in California. Shortly after he opened the account, his sister wired him $100,000. Within a day, Chase shut down his account for “suspicion of fraud.” All Chase would tell him is that “It is under investigation.” William was panicked because he was due to close on a home in a few days and needed the money. Meanwhile, he was ghosted by Chase.
By the way what happened to William is called being “De-banked” where banks close accounts without warning. Banks claim they do it to avoid fraud, but many people who have been “de-banked” says it is often done for political and even religious reasons.
In this case, the show contacted Chase and asked them to look into the matter. The result? They immediately re-opened William’s account and made his funds available. Apparently, the new account getting a big wire from California triggered some kind of algorithm that suggested fraud.
